The question game for couples who think they know everything about each other

Asking for… is a question game for couples. You both write the questions you've never quite asked, we can mix in some of ours so neither of you knows who asked the cheeky one, and you answer together. Play it on a date night in, a long drive or a double date. It runs in your browser, so there's nothing to download.

Things you've probably never asked your partner

  • Did you know one famous relationship lab claims it can predict which couples split with over 90% accuracy? Researchers argue about that number. What they mostly agree on: couples who keep learning about each other do better.
  • Quick test: do you know what your partner is most worried about this month? Not this year. This month.
  • When did you last ask them something you genuinely didn't know the answer to?
  • That question you've been saving for "the right moment"? This is the moment. And you can blame the game.
  • Who's actually the better driver? You'll want the anonymous version of this one.

Why couples run out of questions

At the start, you ask each other everything. A few years in, conversation slides into logistics: who's buying milk, when the plumber's coming, whose turn it is to call your mum. Relationship researcher John Gottman describes strong couples as having detailed "love maps": they know each other's current worries, hopes and stresses, not just the big history. Those maps go out of date if nobody updates them.

A game gives you an excuse to ask. Mix in a few of our questions, and nobody has to own the awkward one.

Ways to play

Date night in. Phones are usually the enemy of date night. This is the exception.

Double dates. With three or more players, you can aim questions at a specific person. Aim them across the table, and four people become one conversation instead of two.

Long drives. The passenger hosts, the driver answers. Eyes on the road.

How it works

  1. Ask anything, anonymously. Write the question you've been saving. On a double date, aim it at anyone at the table.

  2. We can add questions to the mix, so your partner can't tell which one was yours. You decide how many.

  3. No download. Share a code and you're both playing from your phones.

FAQ

What are good questions for couples to ask each other?

Questions that update what you know about each other right now (current worries, hopes, small joys) tend to land better than big philosophical ones. Mix light and deep, and let the game do the asking.

Can we play with just two people?

Yes. Couples mode is built for two. Mix in some of our questions, and neither of you can tell which ones came from the other.

Can we play on a double date?

Yes. With three or more players, you can aim questions at specific people, which keeps everyone in the same conversation.

Do we need to download an app?

No. You both join from your phone's browser with a six-character code.
